Yellowstone is the world’s first National Park that was originally designated around 1872. This beautiful piece of heaven is full of things to see and do. Drive around

One of the best ways to explore the park and travel through it safely is to go by car. Yellowstone has two loop roads that pass by the major attractions in the park. The 96-mile Lower Loop will take you to the Norris Geyser Basin, Lamar Valley, Obsidian Cliffs, and Mammoth Hot Spring Terraces, while the 142-mile Upper Loop will take you past Mt. Washburn.

Go on a picnic

The country’s first national park has plenty of picnic spots to make lifelong memories. Grab a deli sandwich or burger from the local Mammoth Terrace Grill or Canyon Eatery and enjoy the beautiful views. The Artist Point offers an incredible view of Yellowstone’s Lower Falls, which is the tallest waterfall in the area.

Watch the local wildlife

Yellowstone has a diverse collection of wildlife, with over 300 bird species, 16 fish, 5 amphibians, 6 reptiles, and 67 mammals—these include bears, wolves, bison, elks, and moose.

The Lamar and Hayden Valleys are some of the best spots to view the wildlife, especially if you want to catch a glimpse of a wolf. However, you can see animals roaming around almost everywhere, even in the middle of your road while you’re driving. It might be tempting to get closer to certain animals to get a better picture, but according to park rules, you must stay at least 25 yards away from large species such as elk, bison, and bighorn sheep.

This rule is in place to encourage the safety of both visitors and animals—they can be rather dangerous in the wild.

Go fishing

Yellowstone Lake has the highest altitude in the entire country. The area also provides incredible opportunities for fly fishing, with various popular trout streams such as the Gallatin, Madison, and Yellowstone. You can walk and wade through the waters to catch various cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout.
