Big Hole River Fishing Report 6/6/25. About 7 – 10 days early, the Giant Salmonfly hatch is in full swing already and, the trout have been eating the big dries with reckless abandon! Run-off finished earlier than normal this year due to low snow-pack numbers but that has made the spring fishing quite forgiving as water conditions have been great! Current flows are at 1,680 cfs at Maiden Rock and dropping with the water continuing to clear. The Salmonfly hatch has progressed upstream quickly due to the water conditions being on the low side for this time of year. We anticipate we’ll have another week to ten days of Salmonflies and the Golden Stoneflies to continue another two weeks. Trout like fast water when feeding on Salmon and Golden Stoneflies so keep your flies off the bank a bit and in the current. You can also expect to see Caddis, PMD’s and, Yellow Sallies. The old adage, “the foam is home” is a good one to remember now.
