Big Hole River Fishing Report 07/25/25

Big Hole River Fishing Report is dropping fast with high temperatures and little to no precipitation in the forecast, special regulations and closures have been implemented by MT FWP as of 07/22/25. There is a full closure upper from Skinner Meadows to the confluence with the North Fork and also under full closure from Tony Schoonen to the confluence with the Jefferson. The rest of the river is under “Hoot Owl” restrictions. Which means no fishing from 2 pm till midnight. Trout don’t do well in water temperatures in the high sixty’s. This stresses them, therefore, increasing the likelihood of hooking mortality.

We are running trips with early 6 am start times in order to be done fishing by 2 pm on rivers that have been put under Hoot Owl regulations. We recommend fishing early, or heading for high mountain lakes and streams.

We recommend fishing early or a going to all different destinations like mountain creeks and lakes.
