Here is a list of gear you should bring on your Montana fly fishing trip. We can provide you with a loaner rod and reel if you don’t own one, just let us know.
The most commonly used rod / line combinations for catching trout in Montana is 9 to 9.5 foot 5 weight or even better, a 6 weight, loaded with a weight forward floating line. A 9 foot 4 weight is also good for fishing dries on our smaller streams. A sinking tip line is a nice addition to fishing streamers but not absolutely necessary.
